Stuff!
Have you ever been totally satisfied with everything in your life? That’s an easy answer for most of us. Of course not! But for me, I’m learning to concentrate on the things that are perfect in my life and less on the things that are not. I have so much to be thankful for. My family, friends, health, job, etc. Are all of these perfect? Not exactly, but when I realize what I have is more than what some people have…I become humble and appreciative for the things that count the most. Look, life’s never going to be that bed of roses. We are never going to have everything we want or think we need. There will always be speed bumps, no matter what. That’s why it’s called life! If it was perfect….it would be heaven! That comes later! Just being content with where you are now and what you have now, is a good start to getting there. As humans, it is our nature to want more stuff. Our whole life revolves around working and striving to get more things. Our self worth and self confidence is built on how much stuff we own. And how much more stuff we have than our neighbor. As we face an unprecedented time in our country’s history, and as we watch the economy slowly grind to a halt, I wonder how our generation would face a full blown depression. Could we do without…..stuff? Or would society just collapse into total chaos? I personally think we have become too comfortable. And hard times in the form of high unemployment and food shortages would make 80% of us go absolutely insane. Think about not having the things we take for granted. Food, electricity, clean water, telephones, tv, automobiles, shelter, etc. Could we live in that kind of world today? Who’s to say that a year from now or ten years from now, this kind of scenario won’t play out? I believe it’s up to every individual to look deep inside and take stock of who you are and decide on what you can live with and what you can live without. And start preparing for the worst case scenario. I’m no conspiracy theorist and I don’t believe that doomsday is coming…yet. But I do think it’s time, as nation, we wake up and start living for tomorrow and not just the here and now. Peace
